Clarksdale, Miss. – Parts of eastern Arkansas and northwestern Mississippi remain under a dangerous Heat Advisory through Sunday evening as heat index values soar to 107°.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the advisory continues until 8 p.m. Saturday and resumes from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Impacted areas include Phillips, Lee, and Mississippi counties in Arkansas, along with Coahoma, Tunica, and DeSoto counties in Mississippi. Cities like Clarksdale, Helena-West Helena, and Batesville are expected to be among the hottest.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat hours and use air conditioning when possible. Emergency officials also recommend checking on neighbors without reliable cooling and ensuring pets have access to water and shade.

Outdoor workers in agricultural regions and those commuting along Highways 61 and 49 are especially vulnerable. OSHA advises scheduled rest breaks and hydration to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke, which can escalate quickly.

This early summer heat wave mirrors similar events in recent years but arrives earlier than typical July peaks. More advisories may follow if the oppressive heat persists into next week.
