Greenville, Miss. – Flash flooding is threatening communities across southeastern Arkansas and northwestern Mississippi Sunday night as torrential rains push creeks and drainage systems beyond capacity.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Flash Flood Warnings remain in effect until at least 11:15 p.m. for Chicot County, Arkansas, and Washington County, Mississippi. Radar estimates show between 2 and 4 inches of rain have already fallen, with another 1 to 2 inches possible before storms move out. Urban flooding is ongoing or imminent in Greenville, Leland, Lake Village, Eudora, and nearby areas.

Major roadways, including U.S. Highway 82 and Highway 65, may be submerged or closed due to fast-rising water. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel and never attempt to cross flooded roads. “Turn around, don’t drown” warnings are in full effect across both states.

In Arkansas, flash flooding is also impacting Crossett, Hamburg, and surrounding parts of Ashley County, where up to 3.5 inches of rain have already fallen. Flash Flood Warnings there extend through 10:45 p.m.

Residents should monitor local alerts and prepare for potential evacuations in low-lying neighborhoods. More rain could redevelop overnight, and additional flood advisories may be issued.
