Shreveport, Louisiana – Residents across the Ark-La-Tex region could feel a sharp return to winter early next week, as a strong cold front pushes through the area late this weekend and sends temperatures plunging toward freezing levels by Monday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a powerful cold front will sweep across the Four-State Region including east Texas, northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and southeast Oklahoma late in the weekend. Behind the front, a surge of colder air will drop temperatures significantly heading into early next week.
Forecast guidance shows the highest probability of freezing temperatures north of Interstate 20, with cities such as Texarkana, De Queen, and El Dorado seeing the greatest potential for overnight lows at or below 32°F Monday night.
Communities closer to Shreveport, Bossier City, and Marshall may remain slightly warmer, but forecasters still indicate a moderate chance of temperatures dipping near freezing depending on how quickly the cold air settles into the region.
The cold air surge follows a stretch of milder weather ahead of the front this weekend, which will allow temperatures to remain seasonable before the dramatic drop arrives Sunday night into Monday.
Residents across the Ark-La-Tex should begin preparing for a potential early-week freeze, especially in northern areas where sensitive plants, outdoor plumbing, and livestock could be affected. Additional updates are expected as the cold front approaches and forecast confidence increases.
