Shreveport, Louisiana – Hot, muggy air is set to blanket communities from Shreveport to Texarkana and Monroe on Wednesday as a heat advisory takes effect, driving heat index values to a sweltering 105 degrees by late morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the heat advisory covers portions of south central and southwest Arkansas, north central and northwest Louisiana, and east and northeast Texas from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday. The advisory warns that dangerously high temperatures and humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses if proper precautions are not taken.
Major cities at risk include Shreveport, Bossier City, Monroe, Texarkana, Natchitoches, Lufkin, and Longview. Schools, construction sites, and outdoor workers are urged to adjust schedules or move activities indoors when possible. Residents should avoid strenuous activity during peak heat, wear light clothing, and check on neighbors and relatives—especially those without air conditioning.
Local officials remind drivers to never leave children or pets in vehicles, even for a moment. Drink plenty of water, use fans or AC, and stay out of the sun. Those who experience dizziness, nausea, or confusion should seek medical help immediately.
The heat threat is expected to ease after sunset, but additional advisories are possible through the end of the week if conditions persist.
