Monroe, LA – A Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning and afternoon across portions of southern Arkansas, northern Louisiana, and central Mississippi, as rounds of heavy rainfall continue to move across the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) offices in Shreveport and Jackson.
Forecasters warn that excessive rainfall may lead to flooding of creeks, rivers, and low-lying areas, as well as urban flooding in poor drainage zones. The watch includes major areas such as Monroe, Natchitoches, Ruston, and El Dorado in Louisiana and Arkansas, and extends eastward into Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenwood, and Natchez, Mississippi.
In Louisiana and southern Arkansas, the NWS Shreveport office reports that flooding remains possible until 7 a.m. Sunday, while in Mississippi and northeast Louisiana, the NWS Jackson office has extended its Flood Watch through Sunday afternoon as slow-moving storms continue to train over the same locations.
“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other flood-prone areas,” officials warned. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, monitor weather alerts, and move to higher ground if flooding develops.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later Sunday, but saturated soils may lead to additional flooding if rain persists.
