SHREVEPORT, La. – A calm, gray morning settles over northwest Louisiana, but change is coming fast. Clouds are thickening from the west, and a humid south breeze carries that unmistakable “pre-storm” weight — a reminder that travel could get tricky by Saturday as the region transitions toward an early December cool-down.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, widespread showers will develop late Friday night and continue through much of Saturday. A few embedded thunderstorms are possible, especially during the morning and midday hours. Winds will increase to 15 mph with gusts near 30, making travel along I-20 and Highway 71 more challenging for holiday drivers.

By Saturday evening, rain will taper as a weak front pushes through, ushering in cooler, drier air. Sunday brings clearing skies and highs in the upper 40s — a sharp contrast to the damp warmth of Friday. The cooler pattern will linger into next week, with another system likely by Monday or Tuesday bringing renewed rain chances and temperatures dipping near the freezing mark north of the Red River.

Meteorologists say this weekend marks the start of a broader December transition, as colder air spreads southward from the Plains. While no wintry precipitation is expected this far south yet, early-season frost and chilly mornings will become more common heading into the first week of December.

Residents should secure outdoor decorations, check vehicle wipers, and plan for slower travel under slick and gusty conditions through Saturday.
