Little Rock, Ark. – Dangerous heat will blanket much of Arkansas through Sunday, with heat index values soaring past 105 degrees and topping 109 in parts of the state, posing a serious health risk for anyone outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, heat advisories are likely to remain in place through Sunday, June 29, as high humidity and temperatures combine to create oppressive conditions. The highest chances for extreme heat index values include central and southern Arkansas, especially around Pine Bluff, Camden, Monticello, and Little Rock, where Saturday’s risk reaches 80% or higher.

Little Rock and Conway could see heat index values top 105° by mid-afternoon Saturday and again Sunday, while Monticello and El Dorado may reach 108–109°. Outdoor workers, athletes, and vulnerable residents should take precautions—limit time outside, drink plenty of water, and check on neighbors and pets.

In northern and western parts of the state, including Fayetteville and Fort Smith, the risk is lower but not negligible, especially on Sunday as temperatures climb.

This marks one of the most widespread early-summer heat events in Arkansas since June 2022. The NWS urges residents to continue monitoring updates and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours.

⚠️ Heat advisories remain possible through Sunday evening. More updates may follow based on humidity trends.
