Little Rock, Ark. – A dangerous heat advisory remains in effect for much of central and eastern Arkansas through 9 p.m. Friday, with heat index values reaching as high as 109°F in cities like Brinkley, Pine Bluff, and West Memphis.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, air temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s across the state, peaking near 96°F in El Dorado and 95°F in Little Rock and Texarkana. The combination of heat and humidity will push conditions into the “major” heat risk category, which can be hazardous for anyone without proper cooling or hydration.

Little relief is expected during the day, although scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms may offer brief cooling across the northwest—areas like Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Mena have a 40% chance of rain by late afternoon. Central Arkansas, including Hot Springs and Searcy, only has a 20% chance of precipitation, with rain more likely arriving statewide over the weekend.

Residents are urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, wear lightweight clothing, and stay hydrated. Cooling centers and shaded areas should be prioritized, especially for vulnerable populations.

More rain is expected statewide by Sunday, but heat warnings could return. Stay tuned to NWS updates.
