Little Rock, Arkansas – Dangerously high heat will grip much of Arkansas Wednesday, with a Heat Advisory taking effect at noon and lasting until 8 p.m. for central, eastern, north central, southern, and southwest counties. Residents from Little Rock to Pine Bluff and Jonesboro are urged to take precautions as heat index values could climb as high as 109°, and air temperatures reach the upper 90s.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the advisory covers more than 20 counties, including Pulaski, Jefferson, White, Saline, and Ouachita. Afternoon highs between 95°F and 99°F, combined with intense humidity, will create hazardous conditions for anyone working or spending time outdoors.
Road crews, utility workers, and vulnerable groups in cities like Hot Springs, Camden, and Stuttgart should avoid prolonged sun exposure. Stay hydrated, wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, and check on neighbors without air conditioning. The NWS also recommends limiting strenuous outdoor activity and seeking shade whenever possible.
This heat wave follows a stretch of already above-average June temperatures in the region, bringing the most widespread advisory so far this summer. More heat advisories are possible as summer continues.
Warnings remain in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday; monitor local updates as the heat risk could extend or intensify.
