Little Rock, Arkansas – A relentless heat wave is bringing dangerous conditions across much of Arkansas, with heat index values reaching up to 109° through 9 p.m. Thursday. The sweltering stretch is putting residents and travelers at risk for heat-related illnesses, especially in cities like Hot Springs, Mountain Home, Malvern, and Mena.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a heat advisory remains in effect for a wide area, spanning from Marion and Garland counties to central, north central, and western Arkansas. Hot temperatures and oppressive humidity will combine to make outdoor activities hazardous, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Emergency management officials urge Arkansans to stay indoors when possible, keep hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives. Major roadways through Clark, Baxter, and Polk counties could see increased incidents as drivers and outdoor workers face heightened health risks. Residents in communities such as Sheridan, Camden, and Waldron should take extra precautions, including wearing light clothing, limiting strenuous tasks to the early morning or evening, and taking frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.

These conditions are reminiscent of recent summer heat waves that pushed local emergency services to their limits. The advisory remains active until at least Thursday night, and more alerts could be issued if the dangerous trend continues.
