Little Rock, Ark. – Much of Arkansas will remain under a dangerous heat advisory through 9 p.m. Friday as oppressive humidity combines with high temperatures to push heat index values above 105 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the advisory covers more than 30 counties across central, eastern, and southern Arkansas, including Pulaski, Jefferson, Garland, White, and Monroe counties. The advisory was issued due to both daytime highs and stifling overnight lows that prevent any meaningful cooling.

Little Rock, Pine Bluff, and Hot Springs are among the cities where residents may experience significant heat stress, especially during afternoon hours. Outdoor workers and vulnerable populations are urged to take precautions, including staying hydrated, limiting time in direct sun, and checking on neighbors.

Schools running summer programs and local employers with outdoor operations should consider early dismissal or adjusted schedules. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent breaks in shaded areas to prevent heat-related illnesses.

This prolonged heat wave is one of the most widespread of the season so far, with similar temperatures recorded in June 2021. More advisories may follow if conditions persist into the weekend.
