Little Rock, Arkansas – Flash flooding could threaten roads, homes, and low-lying areas across western and southwestern Arkansas through Saturday evening as multiple rounds of heavy rainfall move through the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Flood Watch is in effect for 14 counties, including Pike, Clark, Hot Spring, and Ouachita. Rain totals of 4 to 6 inches are expected, with localized areas possibly reaching 7 inches. The heaviest rainfall is likely Thursday afternoon into the evening, then again late Friday.
Flood-prone areas—especially along rivers, creeks, and poorly drained urban zones in cities like Mena, Camden, Malvern, and Mount Ida—may experience flash flooding. Backroads and rural highways may become impassable during downpours. Residents should avoid travel during peak rainfall and never drive through flooded roadways.
The system is tied to a slow-moving upper low over eastern Oklahoma, which will continue to feed moisture across the region. This pattern increases the chance for repeated storms over the same areas, heightening flood risk.
The Flood Watch remains in effect through Saturday evening. More advisories or flash flood warnings may be issued as the storm progresses.
