Little Rock, AR – Large portions of central, north, and western Arkansas are under a Flood Watch beginning late Monday night and lasting through Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
The agency warns that repeated rounds of rain and thunderstorms could produce widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches, with some localized spots receiving up to 6 to 8 inches. Some communities in the watch zone have already recorded more than 6 inches of rain since the weekend.
According to forecasters, the watch covers more than 30 counties, including Pulaski, Faulkner, Garland, Saline, Conway, and White in central Arkansas; Baxter, Boone, Independence, Marion, Newton, and Sharp in the north; and Logan, Scott, Polk, Johnson, and Montgomery in the west. Major cities such as Little Rock, Conway, Hot Springs, and Russellville are included.
Officials caution that excessive rainfall could quickly lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas, near rivers, creeks, and streams, and across flood-prone roadways. Low-water crossings may become impassable.
Residents are urged to remain alert for possible Flood Warnings, especially during the overnight hours, and to avoid driving through flooded roads.
