Mountain Home, AR – A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect through 3:30 p.m. Saturday as intense thunderstorms continue to soak northern Arkansas counties, prompting urgent safety alerts.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, Doppler radar detected heavy rainfall over Baxter, Boone, Fulton, Izard, Marion, Stone, and surrounding counties late Saturday morning. Storm totals have reached between 3 and 7 inches in some areas, with flash flooding already occurring or expected shortly.
Communities facing the most immediate impact include Harrison, Mountain Home, Mountain View, Cherokee Village, Yellville, and Bull Shoals. Water is reportedly inundating roads, small creeks, and urban areas, creating hazardous driving conditions and threatening low-lying neighborhoods.
Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roadways, emphasizing the warning: “Turn around, don’t drown.” Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
Flood-prone areas such as underpasses, poorly drained intersections, and rural stream crossings are particularly vulnerable. The National Weather Service warns additional rainfall could worsen conditions before the warning expires.
Those in the affected counties should monitor weather updates, follow local advisories, and prepare to move to higher ground if necessary. Emergency services are on standby, and residents are advised to stay indoors and remain alert.
