LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas residents are bracing for heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding as a significant weather event is set to unfold Tuesday into Wednesday. The National Weather Service warns that areas in southern and southwest Arkansas could see up to 2 inches of rain, leading to hazardous conditions for motorists and outdoor activities.
According to the Weather Prediction Center, the heaviest rainfall will begin Tuesday morning and continue through Wednesday at 7 a.m. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) of flash flooding is in place for most of the state, while a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) is in effect for far southern and southwest Arkansas. Locations like El Dorado, Texarkana, and Prescott could experience the worst impacts, with totals of 2 inches or more.
In addition to potential road flooding, localized power outages may occur, particularly in areas that receive more than 1.5 inches of rain. Travelers should avoid driving on roads that are prone to standing water, especially in rural areas with limited drainage. The National Weather Service urges residents to prepare by having emergency kits, charging devices, and avoiding travel if possible.
Flash flood warnings could be issued throughout the event as conditions rapidly change. The situation will be closely monitored, and further updates are expected as the storm progresses.
