Little Rock, Ark. – Triple-digit heat is baking central and northeast Arkansas this weekend, with heat index values soaring as high as 112° through Saturday evening — and the extreme conditions are set to return Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday for Pulaski, Faulkner, Independence, and eight other counties. A second Extreme Heat Warning begins at noon Sunday and lasts until 8 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach up to 110°.
The warning covers cities including Little Rock, Conway, Batesville, Newport, and Walnut Ridge. Meanwhile, Prairie and Monroe counties, including Brinkley and Hazen, shift from an Extreme Heat Warning today to a Heat Advisory on Sunday, with heat index values approaching 107°.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, hydrate frequently, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Limit outdoor activities to early morning or evening, and wear light-colored, breathable clothing.
This is the region’s third extreme heat alert in two weeks, and local emergency services report rising calls related to heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Warnings remain in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday, with additional advisories possible if conditions persist.
