Little Rock, Arkansas – Extreme heat continues to grip Arkansas, with heat index values soaring near or above 110° in Little Rock, Jonesboro, and communities across the state through at least 8 p.m. Wednesday. Residents in Pulaski, Faulkner, Jefferson, and 30 other counties face a heightened risk for heat illness as advisories and warnings extend into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for Sharp, Randolph, Independence, and neighboring counties until 8 p.m. Wednesday, where the heat index could peak at 112°. For Conway, Lonoke, Drew, and most of Central Arkansas, a Heat Advisory is in place through Wednesday evening, with another advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday as high humidity and soaring temperatures persist.

Impacts are wide-reaching: Utilities report spikes in power demand as families rely on air conditioning. School districts in North Little Rock and Monticello are reviewing plans for outdoor activities. Arkansas DOT warns drivers of increased risk for vehicle overheating on highways such as I-40 and I-30, especially during peak afternoon hours.

Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous activities from midday to early evening, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. If you must be outside, wear light clothing and take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors. Recognize symptoms of heat exhaustion—such as dizziness and heavy sweating—and seek help immediately if needed.

Heat advisories are expected to continue into Thursday evening. Further updates or extended warnings are possible as conditions remain hazardous.
