Little Rock, Ark. – Triple-digit heat returns to Arkansas on Sunday, with heat index values near 110°F expected across much of the central and northeastern parts of the state, including Little Rock, Conway, and Searcy.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, an Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday for ten counties: Faulkner, Lonoke, Pulaski, White, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, Woodruff, Independence, and Sharp. Officials warn the high humidity combined with temperatures in the upper 90s will create dangerously oppressive conditions for anyone outdoors.
Residents in urban centers like North Little Rock and Cabot, as well as smaller communities including Walnut Ridge and Augusta, are urged to stay indoors in air conditioning, avoid strenuous activity during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Outdoor workers and athletes should hydrate frequently and take regular breaks in the shade.
This marks the third extreme heat warning issued in July for Arkansas. Power grid strain and elevated emergency room visits were reported during similar events earlier this month.
Heat warnings remain in effect through Sunday evening, and additional advisories could be issued next week as hot, humid conditions persist.
