LITTLE ROCK, AR – A mix of dangerous fire weather, strong winds, and weekend thunderstorms will impact Arkansas, bringing rapid weather shifts across the state. Residents should prepare for elevated wildfire conditions on Friday, followed by rain and possible severe storms on Saturday and Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday due to dry conditions, gusty winds, and low humidity. Winds could reach up to 35 mph, increasing the risk of wildfires, especially along I-30 and I-40 corridors. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
By Saturday, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop, mainly in northwestern and central Arkansas. Some storms could bring hail and damaging winds, with rain chances increasing into the evening. Sunday’s forecast includes stronger storms and a slight tornado risk, particularly in western and central Arkansas as a cold front moves through.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will bring sunny skies and cooler temperatures, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Nights will remain chilly, dropping into the 40s.
What to Do:
• Avoid outdoor burning Friday due to high fire risk.
• Prepare for storms Saturday and Sunday, securing loose outdoor items.
• Stay updated on forecasts for potential severe weather alerts.
Travelers along I-30, I-40, and US-67 should be cautious of high winds and changing road conditions.
