Little Rock, AR – Arkansas residents should prepare for multiple rounds of heavy rain beginning Christmas Eve and lasting through Friday. Rainfall totals of one to three inches are expected across the state, with higher amounts likely in western regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the heaviest rain will target areas along and west of I-40, where isolated spots could see four inches or more. Rainfall starting late Monday night may result in localized flooding in low-lying areas and near streams and creeks.

The forecast shows rain and thunderstorms becoming more frequent by Tuesday afternoon and evening, with a 70% chance of precipitation. Temperatures will remain mild, peaking at 58°F on Tuesday and dropping into the upper 40s at night. Christmas Day looks slightly drier, but scattered showers are still possible, with a high near 57°F.

Travelers should exercise caution during holiday commutes, particularly on major roadways like I-40 and U.S. 67/167. Drivers are advised to reduce speed and avoid water-covered roads. Those in flood-prone areas should monitor forecasts closely and prepare for potential impacts.

Looking ahead, the week will bring brief dry periods on Monday and Thursday before rain returns on Friday. Temperatures will trend warmer, with highs in the mid-50s to low 60s.
