SHREVEPORT, La. – The early morning fog hangs low over the Red River, dimming streetlights and hinting at change. Warm, sticky air lingers across northwest Louisiana today, but a dramatic November cool-down is on the way. After a stretch of near-record highs in the lower 80s, temperatures will tumble sharply late Sunday as the first true fall cold snap settles over the Ark-La-Tex.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, patchy fog and light haze will give way to sunshine later today and Saturday, keeping highs in the low 80s. The unseasonable warmth will linger through Saturday evening before a powerful cold front sweeps across the region late Sunday. Behind it, north winds will increase and temperatures will drop quickly—by nearly 30 degrees in some spots.

Sunday’s highs will top out near 64°F, but by Monday morning, many rural areas from Minden to Marshall could wake to lows in the 30s. The clear, dry air will make for crisp mornings and chilly evenings through much of next week.

Residents are urged to prepare for a potential frost by early Tuesday, particularly north and east of Shreveport. Gardeners should protect sensitive plants, and pet owners are advised to bring animals indoors during the early-week chill.

Veterans Day brings sunshine and a rebound into the mid-70s, offering ideal weather for ceremonies and outdoor events. Still, the pattern signals a larger shift—forecasters expect another cold surge by mid-November that could push lows near freezing across northern Louisiana.

After all, fall’s last warm gasp is ending, and winter’s first whisper is already in the air.
