Shreveport, La. – Dangerous heat is gripping the Four-State Region this Sunday, with heat indices expected to soar between 105 and 109 degrees and afternoon highs reaching the mid-90s across East Texas, southwest Arkansas, and northwest Louisiana.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for cities including Shreveport, Texarkana, El Dorado, and Natchitoches. Overnight lows will offer little relief, remaining in the mid-70s, further stressing those without adequate cooling.

In Shreveport, Homer, and Hope, the combination of heat and humidity will make outdoor conditions feel oppressive. Residents are urged to limit strenuous activity, stay hydrated, and wear light-colored clothing. Those without air conditioning are especially vulnerable; fans alone may not be sufficient to prevent heat-related illnesses.

In East Texas, including Longview and Lufkin, road surfaces could exceed 140°, posing risks for pets and children. Emergency services across the region are on alert, reminding locals to never leave anyone in a parked car.

Heat advisories like today’s are common in late June, but the intensity rivals early July norms. Additional alerts may be issued if conditions persist into the workweek.
