Shreveport, La. – Record-challenging heat is scorching the Ark-La-Tex region this afternoon, with highs climbing into the mid-90s across northwest Louisiana and east Texas.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, temperatures from 92°F to 96°F are expected Tuesday, with cities like Texarkana, Tyler, and Natchitoches baking under partly cloudy skies. Shreveport is forecast to hit 95°F — a few degrees shy of daily records set in past decades. The heat index may push temperatures to feel even warmer, heightening discomfort and health risks for vulnerable populations.
Sulphur Springs, Mount Pleasant, and Monroe are all included in the swath of elevated heat, with residents urged to limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated. Local utilities are bracing for increased demand, and pet owners should ensure animals have shade and water.
Relief arrives tonight as mild, humid air returns. Overnight lows will drop into the lower 70s, with some northern areas dipping to the upper 60s. Conditions remain muggy but less intense compared to the daytime scorcher.
Temperatures remain above average into midweek, and NWS may issue additional advisories if the heat continues to trend toward record territory.
