Flagstaff, Arizona – Travel across northern Arizona could turn treacherous Tuesday as gusts near 50 mph roar across the Kaibab Plateau and Mogollon Rim.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST on Tuesday, May 13. The advisory spans high-elevation areas along I-40 and State Route 264, including Flagstaff, Grand Canyon Village, Tuba City, and Williams. Blowing dust and unsecured objects will be the biggest risks for travelers and residents.

Southwest winds will strengthen through late morning, peaking in the afternoon with sustained speeds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts topping 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected across exposed plateaus and highway corridors, especially I-17 and I-40, where visibility could rapidly drop due to dust.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles—especially RVs, campers, and tractor-trailers—should avoid travel during peak gust periods. Loose outdoor items like patio furniture and trash bins should be secured early Tuesday morning to prevent damage or debris hazards.

The rest of the week trends calmer, with sunny skies and mild spring temperatures settling in after Tuesday night. Wednesday will be clear with highs in the lower 60s, and Thursday brings slightly warmer air near 65°F. Winds gradually taper through Friday with pleasant late spring weather expected into the weekend.

Wind alerts remain active until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Monitor updates and delay travel if conditions worsen.
