Flagstaff, AZ – Strong winds are expected to sweep across northern Arizona Monday through Tuesday evening, prompting a widespread wind advisory that could impact travel and power service.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, the advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Monday to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with southwest winds of 20 to 35 mph and gusts reaching up to 60 mph in some regions, including Flagstaff, Show Low, and the White Mountains.
Areas under the advisory include the Grand Canyon, Kaibab Plateau, Coconino Plateau, Little Colorado River Valley, Mogollon Rim, and northeast plateaus near Window Rock and Ganado. Cities such as Winslow, Holbrook, Tuba City, and Pinetop are also expected to see elevated wind speeds.
Tree limbs could snap, potentially causing scattered power outages. Blowing dust may lead to low visibility, especially in open areas, creating hazardous driving conditions. High-profile vehicles like RVs and tractor trailers are at particular risk due to sudden gusts and reduced control.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and use extra caution while traveling. Winds of this strength are not unusual for spring in northern Arizona but still pose risks across rural and urban areas alike.
