Flagstaff, Arizona – Northern Arizona will roar into the workweek as strong southwest winds whip across the region, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph by Monday afternoon, especially along the Mogollon Rim and White Mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday for areas primarily north of the Mogollon Rim. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with peak gusts between 40 and 45 mph likely to impact travel and elevate fire danger in dry areas.
Flagstaff, Show Low, and Heber will feel the brunt of the wind, with localized gusts intensifying near higher terrain. Interstate 40 and Highways 260 and 89A may see reduced visibility due to blowing dust, while high-profile vehicles could struggle with lane stability. Outdoor activities and loose items like patio furniture should be secured ahead of the advisory.
Sunday brings a warm-up and breezy conditions with gusts of 25 to 30 mph, a prelude to Monday’s stronger winds. Residents are urged to limit outdoor burning and stay alert to changing road conditions.
The Wind Advisory expires at 7 p.m. Monday, but gusty conditions may linger into Tuesday morning. More updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
