Tucson, AZ – A Red Flag Warning is in effect across Southeast Arizona today, from 11 AM to 8 PM MST, due to dangerously high fire conditions. The warning covers multiple fire zones, including Tucson, Pima County, and parts of Cochise, Santa Cruz, and Pinal Counties.
According to the National Weather Service, critical fire conditions will arise from strong southwest winds, gusting up to 35 mph, combined with very low humidity levels as low as 5 percent. These conditions significantly elevate the risk of rapid wildfire spread in the region.
Areas affected by the warning include Tucson’s metropolitan area and the Tohono O’odham Nation. Fire weather zones 150, 151, 152, 153, and 154 are all on high alert for potential fire outbreaks. The risk is compounded by dry vegetation, which can fuel fires and cause erratic, swift growth.
Authorities urge residents and local fire crews to remain vigilant. Anyone in the area is advised to avoid activities that could spark a fire, such as outdoor burning or using machinery that might generate sparks.
This heightened fire risk comes as typical spring weather patterns create ideal conditions for wildfires to grow and spread quickly.
