Phoenix, AZ – Dangerous heat continues to grip the Valley this week, with temperatures soaring as high as 117°F by Thursday and a prolonged Extreme Heat Warning in effect through 8 p.m. Friday. Conditions pose an elevated risk for heat illness, particularly for outdoor workers and vulnerable populations in Maricopa County.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, the heat warning spans the entire metro area—including Glendale, Scottsdale, Chandler, and Mesa—where daily highs will reach between 111°F and 117°F. Overnight lows near 90°F offer little relief, raising concerns about heat stress accumulation. Cooling centers are available across Maricopa County by dialing 2-1-1.

The National Weather Service emphasizes avoiding strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours and recommends staying hydrated, wearing loose clothing, and checking on elderly neighbors or those without AC. With calm winds and dry air, there’s little reprieve expected until the weekend.

Monday: Sunny and hot, high near 111°F, calm winds.
Tuesday: Peak heat builds, high near 113°F, low near 90°F.
Wednesday: Dangerously hot, high hits 116°F, very limited overnight cooling.
Thursday: Hottest day, high near 117°F, heat warning remains in effect.
Friday: Slight drop, high near 112°F. Small chance of storms by evening.

Temperatures may ease slightly by the weekend, but excessive heat remains a threat. Stay weather-aware, especially during late afternoons, and prepare for possible extended warnings if cooling does not materialize.
