Tucson, Ariz. – Drivers across southern Arizona could face treacherous conditions late Wednesday as strong thunderstorm outflows stir up blowing dust from Douglas to Phoenix, while extreme heat grips much of Pinal County. Winds of 40–45 mph may kick up dense dust, reducing visibility to under a mile and possibly producing a haboob along Interstate 10.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, dust impacts are expected to begin south and east of Tucson by midafternoon, spreading into Pima and southeast Pinal counties by early evening. The advisory covers communities including Nogales, Sells, Green Valley, Marana, Eloy, and Sierra Vista, with the worst conditions between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. Northwest Pinal County, including Casa Grande, faces an overlapping Extreme Heat Warning with highs of 105–111 degrees through 8 p.m.

Officials urge motorists to “Pull Aside, Stay Alive” if visibility suddenly drops, turning off headlights and keeping foot off the brake. Those with heart or lung conditions should stay indoors, keep windows closed, and limit outdoor activity. Cooling centers remain open in affected counties.

Blowing dust risks remain possible in southern Arizona through the evening, with additional advisories possible if storm outflows persist.
