Tucson, Arizona – Temperatures across southern Arizona are climbing fast, and Tucson could hit a blistering 111°F by Wednesday afternoon, triggering major heat risks across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday for Pima County, the Tucson Metro Area, and surrounding regions. Afternoon highs between 108°F and 112°F are expected, posing a serious threat of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone outdoors should limit activity during peak heat and drink plenty of water.

Cities under the warning include Green Valley, Marana, Vail, Safford, Ajo, and the Tohono O’odham Nation. Travelers along Interstate 10 should plan for elevated pavement temperatures and the potential for stalled vehicles due to engine overheating. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises workers to shift strenuous tasks to early morning or evening and to wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
