Tucson, Arizona – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday for high-elevation areas of southeast Arizona, with significant snowfall expected in several mountain ranges.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, elevations above 7,000 feet in the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, the Pinaleno and Galiuro Mountains, and the White Mountains of Graham and Greenlee counties could receive between 6 and 12 inches of snow.
The advisory includes popular high-elevation destinations such as Mount Lemmon, Summerhaven, Mount Graham, and Hannagan Meadow. Snow-covered roads and cold temperatures are expected to create slippery and hazardous driving conditions, especially during overnight and early morning hours.
Forecasters say snow will begin Friday evening, intensify at times through Saturday, and continue into early Sunday. Travel impacts are most likely during periods of steadier snowfall, when visibility may be reduced and traction limited on untreated roads.
Residents and visitors traveling to mountain areas are urged to use caution, slow down, and allow extra time. Even minor changes in elevation can significantly affect road conditions in mountainous terrain.
Drivers are encouraged to check the latest road conditions before traveling by calling 511 or visiting az511.gov. Officials recommend avoiding unnecessary travel during the heaviest snowfall periods.
Outdoor recreation visitors, weekend travelers, and mountain communities across southeast Arizona should prepare for winter driving conditions through early Sunday.
