Flagstaff, AZ – Arizona residents are facing strong winds and hazardous conditions Tuesday, April 1, as a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM MST. Areas including Flagstaff, Tuba City, Heber, and surrounding regions of Coconino and Navajo counties are bracing for wind gusts reaching up to 50 MPH. This weather event could cause disruptions to travel and outdoor activities throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service, winds will blow from the southwest at speeds of 20 to 30 MPH, with gusts as strong as 40 to 50 MPH. These powerful winds may cause unsecured objects to blow around, and tree limbs could snap, leading to localized power outages. High-profile vehicles, such as RVs and campers, could also experience difficulties navigating roadways, with low visibility from blowing dust expected to reduce travel safety.
Residents are advised to secure loose objects outdoors that could be blown around or damaged by the strong winds. Drivers, particularly those in large vehicles, should exercise caution and avoid travel if possible. The winds will begin to subside after 7 PM, but conditions could remain challenging for much of the day.
In addition to today’s advisory, the forecast for the coming days includes cooler temperatures and chances of snow showers. On Wednesday, April 2, temperatures will dip into the 30s with winds continuing at 15 to 20 MPH. The rest of the week looks similarly cold, with the possibility of additional snow showers on Thursday and Friday.
