Tucson, AZ – Strong winds and dangerously dry conditions will sweep across Southern Arizona Tuesday, prompting a Red Flag Warning for Tucson and surrounding areas. Residents in Cochise, Pima, Graham, Greenlee, and Pinal counties should prepare for rapid fire spread potential from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, fire weather conditions will intensify due to wind gusts up to 50 mph and humidity levels as low as 10 percent. The warning affects elevations below 5,000 feet, particularly near I-10 and major rural roadways where visibility and fire hazards may rapidly shift.

Tuesday’s conditions include west winds from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts between 45 and 50 mph. Combined with bone-dry vegetation and humidity between 10 to 15 percent, the region faces elevated fire risk. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to secure loose items and avoid activities that may spark flames.

Officials warn that any fires which develop could grow quickly and unpredictably. Fire crews are on heightened alert across the region, especially in fire zones 150, 151, and 152.

Looking ahead, Tucson will see cooler, calmer weather following Tuesday’s warning:

  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high near 65°F
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, warming to 70°F
  • Friday: Sunny, high of 68°F
  • Saturday: Continued sunshine, high near 75°F
