TUCSON, Ariz. – Triple-digit heat and storm chances return to Tucson on Sunday, threatening travel and outdoor safety across Southern Arizona. Drivers along I-10 should prepare for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during the late afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, Sunday’s high will reach near 100°F under mostly sunny skies. A light west wind will strengthen by late afternoon, with storm chances building into the evening. Monday offers little relief, with highs again reaching 100°F.

Road crews urge caution on major corridors, including I-10, where dust storms and wet pavement may cause dangerous conditions. Afternoon storms could develop quickly, producing brief heavy rain and strong wind gusts. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours and secure outdoor items.

Sunday night brings some relief with temperatures falling to the low 70s. Clearer skies return briefly Monday night before storm chances increase again Tuesday. While storms may be scattered, even isolated cells can deliver lightning and sudden flooding in washes.

This weekend’s heat adds another layer of concern. With highs near or above 100°F through Monday, heat safety remains critical. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Storm chances linger into midweek, with periods of partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 90s. Forecasters warn that more advisories may follow if storms strengthen.
