Phoenix, Arizona – Triple-digit heat will continue gripping much of Arizona through the workweek, but a noticeable shift is on the way that could bring cooler temperatures and even rain chances by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, strong high pressure will remain in control through midweek, keeping desert highs near or above 100 degrees and pushing some locations into record territory. The hottest conditions will center around Phoenix and lower desert communities, where prolonged heat will increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially during peak afternoon hours.
By the weekend, that high-pressure system begins to shift east, allowing moisture to move north into Arizona. This change will gradually lower daytime temperatures and introduce a 20 to 30 percent chance of rain across higher terrain areas, particularly east of Phoenix.
Communities in the high country, including areas along the Mogollon Rim, could see the first signs of this weather with isolated showers developing as early as Sunday. Lower desert areas will mainly notice cooler conditions and increased cloud cover.
Residents should continue heat safety precautions through the week, including staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activity. A more unsettled pattern is expected to develop this weekend, with additional updates likely as rain chances become clearer.
