Arizona Weather is brutally cold across Flagstaff this morning, with temperatures near 10 degrees under clear skies. Frost clings to rooftops, and the air feels sharp with wind chills below zero at times. But the bigger story develops later today as a Winter Storm Warning takes effect for the Western Mogollon Rim.
Snow showers remain spotty through late morning, with a high near 33 degrees. Conditions begin shifting after sunset. Heavy snow is expected between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Friday. Total snowfall will range from 1 to 6 inches, with 4 to 6 inches likely in Flagstaff, Munds Park, and Williams. Doney Park could see 2 to 4 inches.
Winds may gust as high as 55 mph. That combination of heavy snow and strong wind will create blowing and drifting snow. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will turn slick quickly. Travel along I-40 and I-17 could become hazardous overnight into early Friday.
If you must travel, keep emergency supplies in your vehicle and check 511 for updates. Conditions may deteriorate rapidly after dark.
Friday still carries a 30 percent chance of lingering snow showers before skies gradually clear. Highs reach near 34, with patchy blowing snow possible in the morning. Friday night drops to around 8 degrees, reinforcing this February cold snap.
The weekend brings relief. Saturday turns sunny with a high near 40. Sunday climbs to 49 under mostly sunny skies. By Monday, temperatures surge into the mid-50s, and midweek highs approach the upper 50s. That warming trend hints at early spring warmth returning to northern Arizona.
