Phoenix, AZ – Residents of Arizona should prepare for severe weather as thunderstorms and high winds are expected across the state. Scattered showers and storms will likely develop on Tuesday afternoon, particularly in the higher terrain of eastern Arizona. The main threats include wind gusts of 40-60 mph, areas of dense blowing dust, localized heavy downpours, and frequent lightning.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, some storms will extend into the lower deserts, including south-central and southwestern Arizona. There is a marginal risk for damaging wind gusts, with a 60-80% chance of winds exceeding 35 mph and a 10-30% chance of winds over 58 mph. Outflow boundaries may generate strong and potentially damaging winds.

An air quality alert has been issued, lasting until 9:00 PM MST on Tuesday, August 6, with additional warnings for blowing dust. The evening will see continued risks for heavy downpours and hazardous conditions due to dust storms.

Temperatures in Phoenix will remain high, with a forecasted high of 109°F on Tuesday, cooling slightly to 101°F on Wednesday. The weather will remain hot throughout the week, with highs ranging from 101°F to 109°F and clear to partly cloudy skies.
