Tucson, Arizona – Blistering heat and renewed thunderstorm chances will collide in Tucson beginning Friday, just in time for the July 4th holiday weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, Friday marks the start of a summer weather alert across Pima County, with a 30% chance of storms arriving after 11 p.m. and highs near 98°F. But the real heat ramps up Saturday through Tuesday, with triple-digit temperatures peaking at 106°F on Sunday and scattered thunderstorms possible each evening.
The mix of high heat and lightning risks could impact travel on Interstate 10, particularly during the evening commute hours and early morning storm recovery periods. Drivers should prepare for brief downpours, low visibility, and flash flooding in storm-prone zones. Those planning holiday celebrations outdoors are urged to stay hydrated, seek shade, and monitor lightning warnings, especially during peak heat hours from 1 to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday remain mostly sunny during the day but bring renewed storm chances after 5 p.m., with overnight lows in the upper 70s, keeping little nighttime relief. By Monday and Tuesday, highs near 108°F will push the heat index to dangerous levels across southern Arizona.
More storms are possible Tuesday night with another round of 50% rain chances.
⚠️ Stay weather-aware through early next week. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued depending on storm intensity and heat conditions.
