Mesa, Arizona – Storm chances return to Arizona on Sunday, bringing a brief break from the triple-digit heat before summer conditions intensify again by Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms are expected in and around Mesa starting late morning Sunday, with a 40% chance of rain building through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, rain and isolated thunderstorms could begin after 11 a.m. Sunday, with the best chance of measurable rainfall during the evening hours. Winds could gust up to 15 mph as storm cells move through the Valley. Rain totals are expected to stay under a half-inch, but localized downpours and lightning could impact travel on US 60 and nearby routes.

Temperatures on Sunday will hover near 91°F, a slight dip from Saturday’s 101°F high. However, don’t expect cooler days ahead. By Monday, skies will clear and daytime highs will soar again, reaching 93°F, then 97°F on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds remain calm through midweek, reducing wildfire risk, though air quality may be affected by smoke drifting from Canadian wildfires across the Midwest.

Looking ahead, the extended summer pattern sets in across the region. Mesa can expect clear skies and highs near or above 100°F starting Thursday. Overnight lows will remain in the mid-70s, offering little relief for outdoor workers or those without AC.

What’s Next:
Storms may briefly cool things down Sunday, but summer heat dominates Arizona’s first week of June. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and watch for updates.
