Flagstaff, Ariz. – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to return Friday across high-elevation areas of northern Arizona, including the White Mountains and Mogollon Rim. Gusty winds up to 15 mph may accompany the strongest showers, raising concerns for localized travel impacts.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, there’s a 10–20% chance of thunderstorms developing Friday, primarily in the afternoon hours. While precipitation amounts are expected to be light, erratic wind gusts could cause sudden visibility reductions, especially near heavier showers.
Communities near Williams, Show Low, and Payson could see brief downpours and breezy conditions, particularly in elevated terrain. Drivers along State Route 260 and U.S. 60 should watch for sudden changes in road conditions, especially during the late morning and early evening.
Temperatures will remain near seasonal averages, but unsettled weather may create cooler pockets during rainfall. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and use caution during outdoor activities due to the potential for unexpected gusts or lightning.
This round of unsettled weather is typical for early May in the region. The NWS says additional updates will be issued if thunderstorm risks increase heading into the weekend.
