Flagstaff, AZ – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Flagstaff has issued a weather alert for Friday, forecasting a significant day of showers and thunderstorms across northern Arizona. Starting from late morning and continuing into the evening, the storm system is expected to bring gusty and erratic winds, small hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall to the area.

According to the NWS, storm motion will primarily head to the northwest at speeds between 10 and 15 mph. Residents are advised to be prepared for the potential hazards associated with these conditions, including localized flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage, and reduced visibility during heavy downpours.

Friday’s high temperatures are expected to reach into the low 90s in areas like Winslow and Sedona, while cooler temperatures are anticipated in Flagstaff with highs around 77°F. The chance of thunderstorms in Flagstaff is significant, with rain chances peaking at 55% during the day.

Looking ahead, the weekend promises a slight reprieve from the severe weather, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures rising into the low 80s on Saturday. The region will continue to experience mild and generally stable weather through the following week, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 70s to low 80s and mostly clear skies. However, residents should remain vigilant for any updated forecasts as weather conditions can change rapidly, particularly during Arizona’s monsoon season.
