Phoenix, AZ – A dangerous and prolonged heat wave will create life-threatening conditions across the Valley on Monday. Temperatures are expected to climb to a blistering 112°F, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses like heat cramps and heat stroke for residents throughout south-central Arizona. The most intense heat will occur during the afternoon hours.
According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Warning remains active for the region until 8 p.m. MST Monday. The alert covers numerous cities, including Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Glendale, and Tempe. Officials urge everyone to take extreme precautions, especially outdoor workers and vulnerable populations. Reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or evening and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
Public cooling centers are available across Maricopa County for those without access to air conditioning. Residents can call 2-1-1 to find information on free cooling locations, transportation, and water. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded place immediately.
