PHOENIX, Ariz. – Arizona is set to endure another stretch of intense September heat as Phoenix braces for triple-digit highs into midweek. By Monday afternoon, thermometers will climb past 102 degrees, making hydration and heat safety a top concern across Maricopa County. Officials warn drivers along I-10 and I-17 to prepare for hot road surfaces and slower evening cooling, especially during peak travel times.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, highs will surge again Tuesday, topping out near 104 degrees before easing slightly by Wednesday. Overnight lows will stay in the upper 70s to near 80, offering little relief for residents without strong cooling systems. Afternoon winds will stay light, meaning the heat will remain stagnant across the Valley.
The extended warmth could strain cooling systems, increase wildfire risks in dry brush areas, and complicate outdoor activities. City officials advise limiting strenuous work outdoors between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and encourage residents to check on neighbors without reliable air conditioning.
Those traveling on major routes including I-10, I-17, and Loop 101 should be mindful of vehicle overheating and tire blowouts in prolonged heat.
Relief is unlikely until late in the week when a slight chance of storms moves into central Arizona. Until then, extreme caution is advised.
Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday, and additional heat advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
