Arizona – Warm desert air already blankets the Phoenix metro this morning, and the sun will quickly push temperatures toward the low 80s by afternoon. Blue skies dominate early, but clouds may build later, bringing a brief chance for evening thunderstorms across parts of the Valley.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a slight chance of thunderstorms develops late today as moisture and instability drift into central Arizona. The chance remains low, around 10 percent during the day, but increases this evening as scattered storms become possible across the metro area. Any storms could produce brief downpours and lightning.
Drivers along Interstate 10, Loop 202, and the U.S. 60 corridor should watch for sudden wet pavement or reduced visibility if showers develop after sunset. Rainfall totals remain light, generally between a tenth and a quarter inch where storms form.
Once those showers move out, a stretch of classic desert spring weather quickly returns. Sunshine dominates Tuesday and Wednesday while temperatures steadily climb. Highs rise from the upper 70s Tuesday to the mid-80s by Wednesday.
By Thursday, Phoenix pushes into early-season heat with temperatures near 92°F, one of the warmest readings so far this March. Calm winds and bright sunshine will give the Valley its first true taste of spring heat as the calendar approaches the first official day of spring on March 20.
For residents and spring break travelers arriving in Arizona, the shift means warmer afternoons and cool desert mornings. Hydration and sun protection become increasingly important during outdoor activities.
Meteorologists say the broader pattern favors above-normal temperatures across much of the Southwest through late week.
Enjoy the sunshine now, but keep an eye on the sky this evening. Did you spot lightning or brief rain in your neighborhood tonight?
