Arizona’s high country wakes up gray and damp this Monday, with mist clinging to pine tops and wet pavement reflecting headlights across Flagstaff. Light rain mixes with colder air early, setting a cautious tone as the first full workweek of 2026 gets underway.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered rain and snow showers linger through late morning, with highs reaching the mid-40s. Winds stay breezy at times, and visibility may dip quickly in passing showers or fog. Drivers on I-40 and Highway 89 should plan extra time during the morning commute, especially near higher elevations and shaded stretches.

Conditions settle somewhat Monday night, but cold air takes hold. Temperatures fall into the mid-20s, allowing damp spots to refreeze. Patchy fog may redevelop by early Tuesday, reducing visibility before sunshine breaks through later in the morning.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring a quieter stretch, though winter never fully steps aside. Highs climb into the mid-to-upper 40s during the day, while nights remain cold. Another disturbance approaches Wednesday, increasing the chance for rain and snow showers by afternoon and evening. Light accumulation is possible, especially on grassy areas and elevated roadways.

Thursday brings the clearest winter signal. Snow showers become more likely through the day, with highs near 40 and gusty winds adding a biting edge. Slushy roads may develop, followed by icy conditions after sunset as temperatures drop into the teens. School travel, evening commutes, and outdoor plans could all be impacted.

More daylight is slowly returning this month, but winter weather still demands attention across northern Arizona. Additional advisories may follow as snow timing sharpens.
