Phoenix, Arizona – The coldest mornings of the season so far are settling across central and northern Arizona, with widespread freezing temperatures expected early Friday and again Saturday morning. Freeze Warnings are in effect for several valleys and desert locations, raising concerns for sensitive plants, exposed pipes, and vulnerable populations.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, temperatures will dip to near or below freezing during the early morning hours both days, especially in areas highlighted under Freeze Warnings. Portions of the lower deserts, including parts of the Phoenix metro, could see readings in the low to mid-30s, while colder outlying areas and higher terrain fall into the 20s. The cold will be most noticeable just before sunrise, when winds are light and skies remain mostly clear.
Communities such as Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Chandler, Casa Grande, and areas toward Globe and Prescott Valley may experience their coldest conditions of the winter season to date. Freezing temperatures can damage or kill unprotected plants, burst exposed pipes, and pose added risk to pets and those without adequate shelter.
Residents are urged to remember the four P’s: protect people, pets, plants, and pipes. Bring pets indoors, cover sensitive vegetation, and insulate outdoor plumbing. Temperatures should begin to moderate later this weekend, but additional cold mornings remain possible, and further advisories could be issued if the pattern persists.
