Flagstaff, AZ – Residents across northern and central Arizona are being warned to prepare for potential flash flooding as remnants of Hurricane Priscilla move into the region this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, moisture from the former tropical system will bring periods of heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday, increasing the risk for flash floods in several areas. Forecast maps show a “slight risk” for excessive rainfall across much of northern Arizona, including Flagstaff, Sedona, and the Mogollon Rim.
Officials urge hikers and motorists to stay alert, especially in slot canyons, washes, and low-lying areas, where flooding can occur suddenly and without warning. Even small amounts of rushing water can be dangerous—just 12 inches can sweep away a car, and 2 feet can move larger vehicles.
Residents are advised to monitor local weather updates, avoid flooded roadways, and have an emergency plan in place. Flash flood watches may be issued as the storm system develops.
