Phoenix, Arizona – Drivers between Tucson and Phoenix should brace for gusty winds and reduced visibility Tuesday evening, as blowing dust threatens travel along I-10 and nearby highways through 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, mountain storms and strong east winds—some exceeding 35 mph—are expected to push dust into south-central Arizona, including the Phoenix metro and northern Pinal County. While rain chances remain low (less than 20%), the wind trajectory is highly favorable for dust development in lower elevation areas.

Phoenix could see hazy skies and dust accumulation, especially in areas south of the city. The highest risk period for reduced visibility and sudden road hazards is between 5–10 p.m. Tuesday. Commuters and travelers should delay trips or use caution, especially on east-west roadways. Blowing dust may also affect flights and disrupt outdoor activities.

This weather pattern follows a stretch of near-record heat across the region, with temperatures expected to hit 109–114°F in lower desert communities on Tuesday.

More gusty winds and isolated storm activity are possible through Thursday, with drier but hot conditions returning by the Fourth of July weekend.
