Flagstaff, AZ – Arizona residents can expect mild temperatures, gusty winds, and sunny skies heading into New Year’s week. The National Weather Service predicts a shift toward warmer conditions during the daytime, while nighttime lows will drop significantly. These changes create a perfect opportunity for outdoor plans but also call for caution during overnight travel due to freezing temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service, Sunday’s high will reach 59 degrees, with winds becoming southwest at 9 to 14 mph and gusts as high as 22 mph. Overnight, temperatures will dip to 26 degrees. Daytime highs for the rest of the week will hover between 50 and 59 degrees, with the coolest temperatures expected on New Year’s Day, as highs peak at 44 degrees.
Travelers along I-40 and surrounding roadways should be aware of light to moderate wind gusts throughout the week, which may affect high-profile vehicles. Those planning evening drives should prepare for temperatures plunging to the teens by midweek, particularly Tuesday and Wednesday nights, when lows could reach 15 degrees.
Despite the clear skies, residents are urged to remain cautious of icy patches, especially in shaded areas. While no precipitation is forecasted through New Year’s, winds could impact outdoor events and decorations.
With sunny conditions dominating, Flagstaff locals are encouraged to take advantage of the milder weather for outdoor activities or last-minute holiday errands. Layered clothing is advised for those venturing out in the evenings when temperatures will feel significantly colder.
