Phoenix, Arizona – A warmer-than-normal weather pattern is expected to take hold across Arizona between Tuesday and Saturday, bringing a noticeable rise in temperatures along with increasing chances for precipitation. The shift signals a more active late-January stretch, with rain favored in lower elevations and snow possible in the high country.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Arizona carries a 60–70% probability of above-normal temperatures during the January 20–24 period. Precipitation probabilities increase into the 40–60% range, indicating a growing likelihood of storm systems tracking across the Southwest.

In Phoenix and much of the south-central desert, daytime highs are expected to climb well above late-January averages, supporting rain rather than any cold-weather precipitation. Periods of showers could develop as Pacific systems move through, leading to wet roads and reduced visibility, especially during peak travel times along I-10, Loop 202, and Loop 101.

Farther north, including Flagstaff, Prescott, Payson, and the Mogollon Rim, temperatures will still trend milder than normal but remain cold enough for snow during periods of precipitation. Higher elevations could see accumulating snow, particularly overnight, with travel impacts possible along I-40, I-17, and State Route 87. Snow levels may fluctuate, creating rapidly changing conditions between valley rain and mountain snow.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware during the Jan 20–24 window, especially those traveling between desert communities and higher terrain. This warmer, more active pattern is expected to persist through late week, and additional advisories or alerts may be issued as precipitation timing and impacts become clearer.
